NE Portland Historic Restoration

This beautiful 1907 historic home in northeast Portland’s chimney is cracked, loose and crumbling due to extensive saturation decay to the brick masonry cells. During saturation, this chimney has gone through extensive expansion and contraction during freezing temperatures.  We’re bringing this chimney down to the roofline, and rebuilding from there, while performing a tuck point repair below the roofline, installing a liner, coating the smoke chamber, and a few other odds and ends to bring this chimney back to its former glory, safe for use and up to code.

NE Portland Chimney Repair

After inspecting this NE Portland chimney we found that this chimney does not have a proper cap,  this flashing is bent, rusted and/or installed incorrectly and causing a leak into
the home, this smoke chamber is missing the refractory cement, and there is no chimney liner. All of these items will be replaced or repaired making this chimney safe for years to come.

Blackwood Cabin Update

We get excited about custom projects, and the Blackwood Cabin is just that.

This project includes all labor and materials to construct a new masonry Rumford style fireplace and chimney. Pour a new concrete footing, build a new chimney foundation out of concrete block, build a new Rumford firebox with black fire brick and black fireclay. The fireplace will have a bell shaped taper at shoulder height and transition to a straight chimney stack going plumb through the roof line penetration. Finish this concrete block chimney in a skip trowel Broquet stucco finish. Build the hearth extension using black Ravens brick with charcoal black colored mortar. Continue to build chimney to code height for wood using new Black Brick. Build a new topping mix crown with black dye. As always supply and install a new custom low profile stainless steel chimney cap powder coated and painted black.

Here are some photos of the finished product, although the cabin is still under construction, our portion of the project is complete.
